MEET ELLIE

Eleanor is Richmond-based craftsperson working in green wood and willow.

Originally trained as a fine artist, she was initially drawn to textiles, especially patchwork, embroidery and knitting with a particular interest in their historical context.

However after a 20 year career in social housing an interest in natural, sustainable materials developed. She started making baskets about eight years ago following a weekend workshop and has been developing her technique since. She has a particular interest in traditional English basketmaking techniques. Carving spoons from greenwood came a few years later, but developed really quickly.

Eleanor sources much of the wood she uses locally, including her allotment in Twickenham where she grows a small amount of willow used for her basket making. She sells her work at local markets, fairs and on line.
