ABOUT US

We are St Margaret’s Creative Collective (SMCC), an all-female group of Local Artists, Makers, Art Educators & some Mothers, founded 4 years ago by Artist and Educator Sophie Corben Griffin. Our core mission is to connect, empower, and offer opportunities and peer support to artists in the area of St Margarets, Twickenham, Richmond and surrounding areas of West London. These aims are achieved through peer to peer meet ups, connecting artists and makers with projects and education work, and by sharing information.

As a collective we pride ourselves on supporting creative women, and promoting excellence in craftsmanship and making. Our website offers you the opportunity to support our artists and makers in the collective, by commissioning and buying beautifully made art and products direct from the artists and makers in your local area.

Founder Sophie, worked as a creative in the publishing and media industries before becoming an artist (mother) and moving from Central London to West London in 2012. “I was totally naïve about having a baby, I actually remember thinking to myself: I’ll have the baby, get back to work and life will continue the same”. In reality, her husband travelled a lot for work and she found it difficult to find creative work to fit around the children.

Feeling isolated Sophie made an effort to meet other creatives and was fortunate in meeting a couple of artists in her local area, who inspired her to set up the group as a mean of support and connection. Since then, the group has continued to connect, empower, and offer opportunities and peer support to artists and makers in the area of St Margarets, Twickenham, Richmond and surrounding areas of West London.

The group have worked on many creative projects together and had their first group show 'FutuREimagined', part of the Richmond Art and Ideas festival, this June 2023. Click on the link to our exhibition page for more .....
